Long Vowels. **Insert big sigh here**
I'm never going to understand why there have to be so many different spelling patterns. Do we really need so many ways to say "a"??? So many letter combinations so little time. I don't know about you but I beam when my kiddos spell a word with a long vowel pattern ANY long vowel pattern...even if it's the wrong one.
Example: wait
In my eyes, these should ALL be acceptable answers,
wayt
wate
weight
weyt
but since they're not...I've created this Long Vowel Unit to help your kiddos learn the difference. You can check it out here or click on the picture.
I know what you mean. I have a high Hispanic population and I cannot imagine how hard it must be to learn to spell english and spanish words.

Isn't this the dang truth??? I wish there were easier ways to teach them to differentiate, but it seems like some of it is just about memorization. Honestly, just like you, I'm pretty thrilled when they just think to add a silent e to the end. I saw, "Rutebere (rootbeer) last week in someone's writing and I just about did a back flip! My favorite is when they just get so completely carried away and just add an e to everything! I'm excited to check this little packet out! Thanks for sharing such a useful tool!
