120th Day of School Party!

Call me crazy, but I'm not going to celebrate the 100th day of school this year.  Instead, I will be celebrating the 120th Day of School! Common Core for first grade extends the counting sequence to 120. In an attempt to show my little ones that there are in fact numbers past 100 I am going to embrace the number 120.  Of course we have worked with numbers to 120 all year.  However, I have a few that are still struggling.  This extra focus on numbers to 120 will really be helpful.  The 100th day of school is usually one of my favorite days.  I start the day off by filling the classroom with 100 balloons and the fun learning begins from there.  I have created a unit to compliment our 120th Day of School celebration.

Long Vowels - Oh dear!

Long Vowels. **Insert big sigh here**

I'm never going to understand why there have to be so many different spelling patterns. Do we really need so many ways to say "a"???  So many letter combinations so little time.  I don't know about you but I beam when my kiddos spell a word with a long vowel pattern ANY long vowel pattern...even if it's the wrong one.  

Example: wait

In my eyes, these should ALL be acceptable answers,

wayt

wate

weight

weyt

It's the little things...linky party!

I love everything about being a teacher.  These past few weeks are no exception.  They have been filled with little trinkets from my students.  I have received the most random wonderful little gifts from my kids that no doubt, come straight from the heart. I thought that some of them were just too good and needed to be shared with the rest of the world.  Since I know I'm not the only one who receives these treasures on a regular basis, I thought I would turn it in to a linky party.   

How precious is this? 

This little guy has been hanging out on my desk...the little girl who gave it to me was insistent that I keep it.
