Confession time!
Over the years, I have bought a lot of books for my classroom. A LOT!
The silly thing is, that I don't put my name in my books. GASP! I know. Risky. What can I say? I like to live on the edge....
I also have an insane resistance to writing in books for any reason. I assume this stems from some childhood trauma that I can't remember. I seriously feel guilty if I write in a book. The other reason? I don't know what to write. I have sooo many teacher friends who have their maiden name in their books and then their new married names in books too. This just helps feed my craziness. I didn't want write the wrong name. I always assumed I would get married and was fearful of writing the wrong name in my books. Let's not forget, I don't like to write in books in general.
Well, this nonsense is all about to change. I am buying a stamp with my new name! I WILL stamp my name in the books that I own. I will NOT feel guilty. The book gods WILL forgive me for vandalizing my books!
The best part...I decided to make it a giveaway! Soooooo...when the book gods come after me they're coming after YOU too because you'll be stamping in all your books like a crazy person right along with me.
Let's keep it simple. Enter below using Raffelcopter.

I never used to write in books until college. I was a literature major and my Lit 1 professor basically forced us to write in books, saying that was how to interact with them. I still hate writing in the margins, but at least it got me to where I don't mind writing my name in them! I understand the maiden name thing though - I'm getting married next summer, so all my book names will be wrong!
ReplyDeleteI could give a list a mile long of all my favorite books, but I'll just leave it at a book one of my students reminded me of today: The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane
My favorite book is Green Eggs and Ham!

Wow, I have too many to name. I love all children's book of any kind. I guess one would be Scaredy Squirrel by Melanie Watt. They are so funny, cute, and really well written. I, too, am funny about writing in books but I try to remember that this is different and it is not meant to destroy the book. Thanks for everything!!

Do I have to pick one? I don't know if that is possible. I just reread a Wrinkle in Time with some of my students and loved it as much as an adult as I did as a kid.
ReplyDeleteI definitely have the same dislike/fear of writing in books! I usually write on a label and put it in the book (not that labels ever peel off well, it just diminishes the book guilt a bit! A stamp is a great idea :)
